"And the stars are projectors, yeah, projecting our lives down to this planet Earth." - Modest Mouse

Even the Pentagon is Scared

The Guardian reports on supressed findings by the Pentagon suggesting that global environmental catastrophe is a very real problem and may cause widespread chaos costing millions of lives.
[The report]warns that major European cities will be sunk beneath rising seas as Britain is plunged into a 'Siberian' climate by 2020. Nuclear conflict, mega-droughts, famine and widespread rioting will erupt across the world.

The document predicts that abrupt climate change could bring the planet to the edge of anarchy as countries develop a nuclear threat to defend and secure dwindling food, water and energy supplies. The threat to global stability vastly eclipses that of terrorism, say the few experts privy to its contents.

'Disruption and conflict will be endemic features of life,' concludes the Pentagon analysis. 'Once again, warfare would define human life.'

Climate change 'should be elevated beyond a scientific debate to a US national security concern', say the authors, Peter Schwartz, CIA consultant and former head of planning at Royal Dutch/Shell Group, and Doug Randall of the California-based Global Business Network.
Of course we can thank the Bush administration in part for it's pandering to corporate energy concerns, as well as the oil industry for a century's worth of evil for profit. But the real problem is fundamental to global economics and the current drive towards industrialization. It's also not too far-fetched to suggest that the prevailing world religions have fostered a sense of disregard for the planet and ecology in general. Matter is a prison keeping us from heaven so go ahead and rape the planet because its really just a tool of the Devil to deceive us all.

Hopefully this report will actually generate a large degree of concern and capture people's thoughts a little bit more than American Idol or the Washington Circus. Happy thoughts, think happy thoughs....
