"And the stars are projectors, yeah, projecting our lives down to this planet Earth." - Modest Mouse

PalmBeachPost.com has an article profiing former astronaut Ed Mitchel who, in 1971, became the sixth man to walk on the moon. Before the Apollo 14 flight the press discovered that he had secretly arranged to conduct telepathic experiments from space. Undaunted, the tests proceeded. Then on the return flight he had a profound mystical experience.
"I got to look out the window a lot."

"What I experienced during that three-day trip home was nothing short of an overwhelming sense of universal connectedness. I actually felt what has been described as an ecstacy of unity...a sense that our presence as space travelers, and the existence of the universe itself, was not accidental, but that there was an intelligent process at work. I perceived the universe as in some way conscious."

Later, he was drawn to Hinduism and Buddhism and came across the word samhadi -a sanskrit term referring to a state of self-awarenss within oneness. He went on to found the Institute of Noetic Sciences, and has continued to search for meaning and unity in existence.
"It would appear most of the so-called mystical and spiritual experiences these people have been having forever are part of the quantum properties of every living organism," he said.
