Satan Fights Back

Nearly 250 Muslim worshippers were killed in a stampede at the annual pilgrimage in Mina, Saudi Arabia, during the traditional stoning of Satan. The "notoriously perilous ceremony" often results in deaths as worshippers hurls stones and insults at a ceremonial pillar representative of the dark prince. It seems that the worshippers themselves become such vehicles of hatred against evil that they become indifferent to those around them.
The devil-stoning is the most animated ritual of the annual pilgrimage and often the most dangerous. Many pilgrims frantically throw rocks, shout insults or hurl their shoes at the pillars - acts that are supposed to demonstrate their deep disdain for the devil.

I find this to be an intersting commentary on religious fundamentalism and it's paradoxical ability to often cause harm in the name of god.
