Sea Mammals in Monterey Bay

One of the many wonders of living on the central coast is the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary. This time of year gray whales pass through, migrating north from Baja to Alaska. They give birth in the warm Baja waters and this season has apparently seen a boom in numbers. As the young whales pass through the cooler northern waters they come into contact with predatory killer whales. In the last month or so Monterey Bay has seen ongoing attacks on grey whale calves by pods of Orcas - such cooperative attacks can last up to 12 hours.
